Team3 (Green & Pink)

The client wanted a light and simple-to-understand game that could be quickly and easily translated into multiple languages and played around the world.  Forever Stoked delivered Team3.

The Brief

The design goal for Team3 was to create a light and simple to understand game for which could be quickly and easily translated into multiple languages and played around the world.

OUR APPROACH

We were inspired by the idea of the 3 Monkees where one could speak no evil, one could see no evil, and the third could do no evil. Taking that idea, we wanted to put the players on a team attempting to complete what would seem like a simple task of matching a pattern of blocks on a card. The challenge would be that the player who could see the card couldn’t speak, the second player could see and talk but not touch the blocks, while the third player could touch the block but not see. In order to accomplish their task the players would have to work together through mime, direction, guessing, and lots of laughter.

The crux is in translating from the visual to the auditory to the physical and the inherent strengths and weaknesses of each method of communication.

THE PROJECT

Three monkeys have started a construction company, and the building blueprints are coming in quick! Now the monkeys have to work together to complete their blueprints before time runs out.

The game of TEAM3 is played in teams of three players, with each player taking on the role of one of the three monkeys: the monkey who can’t speak, the monkey who can’t see, or the monkey in the middle.

Success

Team 3 was a creative and commercial success. In less than a year it has been published in more than a dozen languages and is selling around the world. It has won numerous awards and was nominated for multiple Game of the Year awards around the world. It has also spawned expansions and spinoff products, with no end in sight.
